VIDEO: Indian Round Roti in Varanasi, India

By Mark Wiens 4 Comments

Within the lanes of Varanasi, I discovered a small stall with a man serving a delightful snack known as baati chokha, or round roti.

Theses little balls of dough about the size of a golf ball were filled with garam masala spices and grilled before being served with a curry sauce made form potatoes and chillies.

Watch the video now…

(If you can’t see the video, watch baati chokha here)

Thank you for watching!

Simple, fresh, and extremely tasty. I really enjoyed eating these baati chokha round rotis while visiting Varanasi!

That just looks too cheap to be true. If you give me any kind of grilled “bread” with a tasty sauce, I’d give up almost any meat in the world, almost… 🙂

(maybe one day you can tell us how your stomach/body reacts to all this new kind of foods or spices, do you prepare in any way before eating something totally new?)

Hey Dan, grilled bread with sauce is a wonderful thing!

My stomach in India was fine, I didn’t have any problems. I don’t do much to prepare, but I normally just try to eat things that looks fresh and where others are eating.
