The island of Zanzibar is located just off the coast of Tanzania, East Africa.  Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, overflows with beauty and history, making it a fascinating place to visit.  Here is a series (no particular order) of 21 photos of Stone Town, Zanzibar.

    one of my favorite photography towns, but wish you’d done some in color also. Love me some B&W, but Stone Town also has some incredible colors. Great stuff though!

    Marvelous collection, Mike. I haven’t been there, but I seems like the photos are catching the essence of life there. I really like the honesty in them. My favourite one is the peanut seller. I’m not sure why, perhaps the body position/gesture. Which one is your favourite?

    Beatiful photography – I’ve never been to Stone Town but spent some time in Lamu, further up the coast off Kenya. These remind me of it.

    Wow! These shots are fantastic! I love them in Black and White, it really captures the essence of Zanzibar. We were there a couple of years ago and you definitely made me feel like we were right back in the middle of it all. Beautiful work.

    Fantastic pictures Mark. The only thing I know about Zanzibar is what my friend told me as she grew up there but she has never showed me any pictures.

    Wow–these are gorgeous shots! I agree with everyone here and love the Black & White! I have never been to Zanzibar (in fact it’s never even been on my radar) but it certainly looks like an interesting place to visit. Happy New Year!

    Black and white brings out the drama of all those dead animals more than color could. A brilliant idea.Zanzibar has been on the back of my mind for a long time, glad you went and brought it back to the forefront for me. Talk about inspiration.

    I like the gritty black and white effect in this series. My favourite is the first. I like the boy’s smile!

    Love the shots! I always prefer black and white or sepia color! Really like pic no 1, the child is cute! And 11 – the fish look great in the basket!

    When I went to Zanzibar, I only stopped in Stone Town for a few hours before my flight. Its an amazing vibrant place and its well worth staying overnight. There are a number of wonderful unique hotels where you can base yourself ready to explore the maze of streets.

    yes, have been to Stonetown. very good photos….but too many fish and cow heads for both my taste and for the real feeling of Stonetown, but of course that is subjective.
